My Self Portait
Over the course of a month or so I was working on my self portrait on the illustrator application. I started by placing the actual picture of myself (top) on a separate layer and on different layers I would trace over top of it (while it was locked) and whatever I drew would appear on my drawing board. I began by outline my face and filling it with a skin tone gradient. Next I traced my eyelids, brows, lashes and finally the whole eye. I switched around some colours and played with the opacity so it would look a little more like me. Next I traced my lips and added some accents so they didn’t look so flat. After that I used a special brush and an outline to paint my hair so it would look messy like in the actual picture. After that, I made a layer underneath my hair and outlined my ears, then drew some accents on them so once again, they wouldn’t appear so flat. I then outlined my neck, and drew on my backpack straps and shirt on a layer above my neck. Next I used many different outline and brush layers to draw my nose. I had to change the opacity on many of those layers so the nose didn’t look so weird but in the end I enjoyed how it looked. After that, I outlined my hand and added a gradient, then made a layer beneath the hand and made a rectangle with a gradient to fill the spaces in between the fingers. Lastly, I added a nice light blue background and flattened the image to merge all the layers. I then saved and exported it to my website and here it is.
